300-home job-creating development proposed

Plans have been lodged for a development more than 300 homes on the North Yorkshire coast that could support the creation of about 800 jobs.Keyland Developments, the property trading arm of Kelda Group and sister company to Yorkshire Water, has submitted a planning application to Scarborough Council for Broomfield Farm in Whitby.The site is the largest former Yorkshire Water residential site in Keyland Developments’ portfolio.The circa 23-acre vacant plot sits directly adjacent to Stainsacre Lane, a direct route between Whitby and Scarborough, and is close to Eskdale Park residential area and Whitby Business Park.Planning permission is sought for a development of up to 320 homes of different types and tenures, together with vehicle access, spine road, community hub, associated infrastructure and public open space.The illustrative masterplan allows for apartments, bungalows, terraced houses, townhouses, semi-detached houses and detached houses. The primary focus would be the provision of three- and four-bedroom properties designed to cater for local needs.It has been estimated that the development could support the creation of about 800 jobs in the Whitby area. It could also bring benefits in relation to the health and well-being of new and existing residents through improvements to the Cinder Track and green infrastructure, as well as through the creation of a new community hub.
