Taylor Wimpey’s plans to build a residential development on the former Bickershaw Colliery site in Wigan look set to be backed. With the original use having ceased in 1992, the area now comprises a largely cleared plot which is used as a construction compound for an adjacent development site currently under construction by the applicant.Proposed for the Plank Lane scheme are 29 properties, comprising 17 houses and 12 apartments, together with a retail store located on the ground floor of the four-storey building housing the latter.On-site parking would also be provided.A total of 12 objections have been made with concerns raised including local infrastructure being ‘insufficient’, the scheme ‘exacerbating problems’ within the area, and the project being an ‘over-development’ of the site.During the course of the application, amendments were sought to address consultee responses.Approval has now been recommended, with Wigan Council’s planning committee set to meet on 11 February.
