Queen Margaret Academy completed in South Ayrshire

The contractor company Kier have recently completed the construction of the Queen Margaret Academy in South Ayrshire, Scotland, as part of a £25M contract organised by the South Ayrshire Council and the development partner hub South West Scotland.

Specifically, the new Queen Margaret Academy has been built to include new features such as 54 modern classrooms, an interactive ICT centre, a large games hall, two gyms, two all-weather pitches, and hard games courts, all contained within a three-storey building that can accommodate 800 students.

The Operations Director of Kier Regional Building Scotland, Sean O’Callaghan stated: “We are pleased to have delivered this leading, modern academy with fantastic new sports facilities for 800 students and the wider community to enjoy, building on our track record of delivering quality schools throughout Scotland.

“Through hub South West Scotland, we worked with local suppliers to ensure that the project boosts the Ayrshire economy and provided local talent with the opportunity to gain valuable experience of working on a state-of-the-art building.  This included creating 17 apprenticeships, 20 work placements, with four resulting in full time employment, and engaging with over 750 school pupils to discuss careers in the built environment.”

The Chief Executive of hub South West Scotland, Michael McBrearty commented: “We are proud to have delivered the new Queen Margaret Academy to South Ayrshire Council and it is wonderful to now be celebrating the school’s Official opening and seeing the response from pupils, staff, parents and the local community. The new facilities are first-class and will help in shaping the futures of thousands of young people.

“This is the fifth Educational project we have successfully delivered on behalf of South Ayrshire Council following on from Dailly and Tarbolton Primary Schools, Marr College and Ayr Academy. We look forward to further expanding our Educational portfolio with the Authority on future projects.”

The South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Lifelong Learning, Councillor William Grant added: “Through our school build programme, we are transforming learning in South Ayrshire. The new Queen Margaret Academy signifies another chapter in the school’s future and gives us an opportunity to reflect on its history.

“The fantastic new facilities will enhance the strong sense of pride and belonging that staff and pupils, past and present, contribute to and enjoy.”
