Morrison Construction, the Scottish business of Galliford Try, has secured a £54m ($69.6m) contract from Scottish Prison Service to build a new women’s national facility in Stirling, Scotland. The new facility will replace Scotland’s only female prison at Cornton Vale in Stirling. The existing Cornton Vale prison can accommodate approximately 119 prisoners and a separate Mother and Baby Unit along with seven spaces. Under the contract, Morrison will redevelop the current Cornton Vale facility in a programme of demolition and new build. The project will be completed in two phases. The first phase will involve the construction of two new residential blocks as well as a separate assessment centre. Morrison will build a new central hub comprising vocational and educational facilities, medical centre and laundry including a family and visitor area and administrative building. The second phase of the project will include the creation of a retreat and multi-faith area as well as an animal welfare and grounds maintenance building. The project will also include a new 126 space car parking area with EV (electric vehicle) charging points, improved hard and soft landscaping within the grounds along with security fencing.
