Brighton office plans set for nod

Plans to knock down a building in Brighton’s Old Town conservation area to make way for a grade A office scheme have been recommended for approval.The application site is located at 9-12 Middle Street, opposite the grade II-listed synagogue. It is largely vacant apart from a karaoke bar.Under the plans, the existing buildings would be demolished to make way for a part-three, part-six storey development.It would comprise almost 27,000 sq ft of office space, with commercial use, such as restaurants, bars and cafes, at the ground floor and basement.In a document filed ahead of a planning committee meeting on 1 April 2020, Brighton & Hove City Council officers said the “scheme would deliver substantial benefits”.They have been minded to grant approval.The green light is subject to the completion of a section 106 agreement. Head of terms of the deal include a contribution to the council’s employment and training strategy and a sustainable transport contribution.
