Approval for £150m improvement scheme
Plans to make £150m worth of improvements to the main road in and out of Fleetwood have been backed.Highways England is behind the project, which is earmarked for a three-mile stretch of the A585 at Little Singleton.Proposed is a two-lane dual carriageway from Windy Harbour to Skippool.This would incorporate four new junctions, including the conversion of Skippool to a traffic signal-controlled crossroads with A588 Breck Road and B5412 Skippool Road.Also included would three new major structures, those being the replacement of Skippool Bridge, Lodge Lane Bridge and Grange Footbridge.Highways England has now been granted a development consent order after the project was considered under the government’s Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project initiative.The improvements are designed to ease congestion.
