400 homes on former brickworks set for approval

Plans to build more than 400 homes on a former brickworks site on the banks of the River Don in Sheffield look set to get the green light next week.Bloor Homes submitted a full planning application to Sheffield City Council in February 2019 for the redevelopment of the former GR Steins Brickworks site in Deepcar.The 39.5-acre brownfield site comprises two parcels of land between Station Road and Manchester Road, divided by the River Don.Planning permission is sought for the construction of 430 homes on the site, with a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units. The properties will include house, maisonettes and apartment blocks.The application is recommended for approval in a report prepared for the next meeting of the council’s Planning and Highways Committee, which will be held via video conference on 12 May 2020.An application for 413 homes on the site was approved in October 2016 and highways infrastructure has been built, including a bridge over the river.The new scheme also proposes an alternative retaining wall strategy to that of the original application. The previously approved pedestrian bridge across the River Don is now longer included.
