Major mixed-use Kent scheme set for approval

A hybrid planning application for a development featuring hundreds of homes, a school and a bowls club in Kent is set to get the green light.The major project – led my Quinn Estates and Redrow Homes – is earmarked for land between the railway line and Willesborough Road in Kennington.The plans are seeking outline permission for up to 437 dwellings, as well as associated services, infrastructure and groundworks.Full planning permission is sought for 288 dwellings, a two-form primary school with open space and parking, a bowls centre and clubhouse, a local centre featuring a cafe, food store, takeaway and gym, and landscaping.Initially, 320 homes were proposed for the first phase, but this was scaled back.The dwellings across both phases include both flats and houses.The application will go before Ashford Borough Council’s virtual planning committee on 21 May with a recomendation for approval.It was set to be determined on 18 March, but the meeting was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.Documents published ahead of the meeting said the scheme could have a construction value of about £77.5m and would support more than 300 construction jobs per month.Final approval is subject to a number of conditions, including the finalisation of a section 106 agreement.
