Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians beginning to return to streets across the North West are set to benefit from a £244m investment designed to make journeys quicker and safer. The cash boost is part of the £1.7bn Transport Infrastructure Investment Fund announced by the government, which will be used to improve roads, repair bridges and fill in millions of potholes across England. In the North West, about 1.5 million nuisance potholes will be targeted with smaller improvements earmarked for local networks.Councils across the North West have already taken advantage of the quiet periods on the roads to carry out key works, including replacing the 250-year-old Pooley Bridge that collapsed during the winter floods of 2015/16.
