Dame Ann Gloag unveils Highland holiday resort plans

Stagecoach Group co-founder Dame Ann Gloag has announced plans to open up her highland resort at Beaufort Castle as an outdoor holiday resort.A planning application in principle submitted to Highland Council calls for 50 bespoke holiday lodges to be arranged around a courtyard housing a cafe, retail and admin space and a camping wash house.It would also include “looser, more creative structures which would respond directly to the colour, shadow and sculptural forms created by the living woodland”.Fire pits would also be created, to recreate a traditional outdoor camping experience.The plans were unveiled last September with a planning application in principle being submitted last week.Beaufort Castle, which dates back to the 11th century, was purchased by Ms Gloag from Lord Lovat in 1994.Agent Savills said the Beaufort Castle development will address unmet demand for visitor accommodation in the area and generate economic benefits locally.Addressing local concerns about transport, a consultant has been appointed to provide a transport statement for the proposed development.
