Specialist industrial equipment scheme gets council backing

A new base to provide training to programme specialist industrial equipment has been approved.Greater Birmingham & Solihull Institute of Technology has been set up by Solihull College, Aston University, Birmingham City University and the University of Birmingham to deliver training and support facilities on programming of specialist industrial equipment.The project has been supported by a funding agreement from the Department of Education for both the new building and equipment.The building, which will be located at Aston University, will mainly be used to support university/ college courses, but will also be available for use by local schools and other further education colleges as a commercial operation.Designed by Warwick-based Robothams Architects, the site is currently used as a sports pitch.The go-ahead has been granted by Birmingham city Council and the building will have 4,736 sq ft of space.
