Plans in for 4,000-home phase of proposed new town

An application for a further phase of a planned new town of about 10,000 dwellings in Cambridgeshire has been submitted. The latest element of the scheme proposes 4,000 homes, a local centre and two primary schools.Northstowe is located to the north west of Cambridge and once complete will be home to about 25,000 people.It is one of a number of “healthy new towns” in England, which will prioritise reducing obesity and promoting healthy and active lifestyles. The latest application from Homes England is for phase 3A, on land on Rampton Road in Longstanton.As well as 4,000 homes, it could comprise two primary schools, , a local centre with employment, community, retail, food, drink and leisure space, as well as secondary mixed use zones with further employment, community, leisure, retail and residential uses.The latest phase also proposes open space and landscaped areas, the retention of an existing military lake and the creation of a new lake.The news comes weeks after Insider reported that plans had been lodged for phase 3B of Northstowe, on Station Road. The application was for 1,000 homes, a new primary school, open spaces and a “mixed use zone” featuring retail space, food and drink facilities and space for community and leisure activities.
