Green light expected for first phase of major university development

The potential first phase of a major development at the University of Birmingham has been recommended for approval.The initial plan would see the site of the former Munrow Sports Centre on the Edgbaston Campus transformed into a modular sciences academic building featuring 137,670 sq ft of laboratories, offices, lecturing and tutorial rooms.Birmingham City Council’s planning committee is set to meet remotely on Thursday 4 June to vote on the proposal.Designed by Associated Architects, it would have space for about 500 to 600 occupants and 12 new jobs would be created.The original sports centre was developed in the 1960s and 1970s and was demolished in 2018.The application is the first phase of a potential four in total.
