Hull road improvement project moves forward

Work is set to start this summer on a multimillion-pound project to improve connectivity between Hull city centre and the retail and docks area.The A63 Castle Street scheme aims to support the city’s economic growth, improve journeys to and from the centre, and help the Port of Hull to thrive.Highways England can now set up a site compound and start work on the ground after receiving the green light from transport secretary Grant Shapps.The Highways England project will include the creation of a new junction by lowering the level of the A63 at the Mytongate junction.Ferensway and Commercial Road will cross the A63, creating a split-level junction. The eastbound carriageway between Princes Dock Street and Market Place will be widened to three lanes, and a new bridge built over the A63 at Porter Street.The city’s new bridge has also been funded by Highways England with a £4m contribution from Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). It is to be named after Hull’s first female GP, Dr Mary Murdoch, and will be unveiled this summer.
