Thousands of new Basingstoke homes set for nod

Plans to build a new community in Basingstoke featuring about 3,200 new homes, a local centre and a country park are set to be given the green light.The significant Manydown development could transform land off Roman Road and Worting Road.As well as thousands of new homes – with a maximum of 3,520 – the project will comprise two new primary schools and land for a new secondary schools.The plans feature a central street through the site and space for non-residential use such as shops and community facilities.The country park is expected to span almost 250 acres and the scheme also includes neighbourhood parks, allotments and outdoor sports facilities.Insider reported last month that the scheme will go before Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council’s planning committee on 8 July 2020. It was due to be decided in March but the process was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.Once given the go ahead work will be phased. Phase 1 A/B will include the construction of 1,200 homes, the first primary school, a community hub and the country park.A further 1,200 and 1,120 dwellings will follow in phases 2 A/B and 3 A/B respectively, along with another school and a sports hub among other amenities
