Plans to transform a Hampshire golf course into a development of up to 1,000 new homes look set to be approved. The proposals, lodged by Bloor Homes, propose the conversion of Basingstoke Golf Club on Winchester Road in Kempshott Hill. The 18-hole facility spans more than 118 acres and includes a clubhouse.Under the plans, all buildings on the land would be demolished to make way for up to 1,000 dwellings. As well as housing, the site would also comprise a local centre with a community facility, a day nursery, open space, sports provision, pedestrian and cycle links, and traveller pitches.Vehicular access will be provided from Winchester Road. The scheme has been recommended for approval by Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council later this week (22 July 2020).They added the development would result in the “loss of the historic parkland that was associated with the former Kempshott House” but that the benefits “significantly outweigh” the losses.Final approval is subject to the completion of a section 106 agreement.
