Apprentice training
With the introduction of the apprenticeship levy and public sector apprenticeship targets the Council will increase its apprenticeship starts up to an estimated 75 in 2017/18. As well as managing the apprenticeship levy account for Camden council, Camden Apprenticeships manages the levy funds paid by community schools in Camden adding a further estimated 20 apprenticeship starts per year. We anticipate that many members of staff being trained as apprentices will not have been in formal training for a long time and will need support to adjust. In particular we are keen to receive good support with functional skills training. Camden is responsible for ensuring there are development opportunities for residents and that no resident gets left behind. This means the Council’s recruitment of new apprentices has a strong local focus, providing opportunities almost entirely for residents that live in the borough.
