Plans for a development of 250 homes adjacent to a South Yorkshire retail park look set to get the go ahead next week.U and I Group, supported by Savills and QAD architects, originally submitted an application to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council in 2017 for development on a site off Bleachcroft Way, adjacent to the Stairfoot Retail Park.Planning permission is sought for the construction of up to 250 homes on the 25.6-acre site. About 10 per cent of the development would be affordable housing.A range of house types are proposed, and new areas of public open space would also be created.A development of 230 homes was initially proposed but the application was revised following the adoption of Barnsley’s Local Plans. The revised scheme will go before the council’s Planning Regulatory Board on 28 July and is recommended for approval, subject to conditions, in an officer’s report prepared for the virtual meeting.A 2009 application for 272 homes with ancillary services and facilities was refused planning consent as it was deemed to be not in accordance with the development plan at the time.
