Step forward for major Colchester leisure scheme
Fresh plans have been lodged for a new 200,000 sq ft leisure development in Colchester, which would include a cinema, indoor golf centre and a 90-bed hotel.Turnstone Estates has lodged an application for the Northern Gateway scheme with Colchester Borough Council and is aiming to complete the project by 2022/23.It comprises a 12-screen Cineworld cinema, a Hollywood Bowl bowling alley, a Putt Stars indoor golf centre, a Jump Street run climbing centre, seven restaurants, two drive-thru restaurants and a 90-bed hotel.The site would also provide parking for 750 cars and eight electric car charging points.Colchester Northern Gateway was originally given planning permission in 2018.Colchester Amphora Trading Ltd (CATL), the council’s commercial trading company, is project managing the development. It also includes up to 350 new homes, healthcare provision with older persons accommodation, and commercial floorspace.Subject to approval, work will start early in 2021. Turnstone is being advised by Whybrow and Wareing and Partners.
