Major mixed-use development secures approval

A major mixed-use development set to provide almost 120 new homes and new industrial space in Dundonald has been given the seal of approval.Brought forward by Comber Road Developments, the scheme involves the construction of 119 new homes, along with 18 industrial units, located south of the Comber Greenway.The housing comprises a mixture of three-bed townhouse, semi-detached and detached properties, with a number of four-bed units also included.The industrial units will range in size to create a small-scale business park. In a statement filed with the council, the applicant said that “the scale and nature of the business park has been carefully balanced to respond to the local demand for starter accommodation.”It is estimated that the new industrial space could create up 68 jobs upon completion.Measuring approximately 21 acres, the application site mainly comprises of rough grassland, which was previously used to deposit construction waste, arising from the construction of social housing in the Dundonald area in the 1980s.A report that was scrutinised by Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council recommended the application be approved.The scheme has now been approved, subject to conditions.
