The construction of a major mixed-use scheme in Kent’s Herne Bay – featuring up to 900 homes, commercial space and shops – has taken a step forward after being recommended for approval. It comes almost two months after a decision by planners was delayed to allow for a site visit. The project for the 135.1 acres of agricultural land at Hillborough on Sweechbridge Road is being led by Taylor Wimpey.Proposals include detailed plans for 193 dwellings and an outline application for a further 707 homes. The outline plans also includes more than 355,000 sq ft of commercial floorspace, including an 80-bed care home, as well as a local convenience store, retal units, a community centre with associated car parking, a two-form primary school and open public space. The plans are set to get the nod at a Canterbury City Council meeting on 1 September 2020.The project previously went before the committee on 2 July with a recommendation for approval, but a decision was delayed to allow for a site visit.
