A document designed to guide high quality, mixed-use development across Brooks Lane in Middlewich looks set to progress next week. The area has been identified in Cheshire East Council’s Local Plan Strategy (LPS) as an area of potential future regeneration.A masterplan-led approach has been suggested, which could bring forward 200 homes, leisure and community facilities, retail space and green infrastructure, as well as the development of a marina at the Trent and Mersey Canal. The Brooks Lane Development Framework has been drawn up to provide detailed planning guidance to illustrate how such ambitions can be realised in line with the LPS.It could be used to “inform the preparation of development proposals for the site, setting out key matters that proposals should address in order to achieve high quality new development that will significantly enhance the area and benefit the town as a whole”.The framework was drawn up on the back of a host of engagement and consultation stages.Proposed now is adopting it as a supplementary planning document. This would make it a “material consideration in the determination of relevant planning applications”.Cheshire East Council’s Cabinet has now been recommended to approve the plans, with a meeting set to take place on 8 September.
