Plans to develop almost 70 new homes and commercial space within a North Tyneside Village have been tipped for the green light ahead of a planning committee meeting next week.Northumberland Estates has earmarked land at Backworth Business Park on Eccleston Close for the construction of 67 residential properties, along with 14 commercial units. The scheme includes a mixture of family homes, including bungalows, with 25 per cent allocated as affordable housing. Each property will have its own private amenity space, parking and refuse storage. The industrial element of the proposal consists of a total of 7,000 sq ft of commercial floorspace.Measuring approximately 15 acres, the application site was remediated in the early 1980’s and has been largely derelict since that period. The site is located adjacent to The Backworth Village Conservation Area.A report for the council recommended that the scheme be approved, subject to conditions.
