Housing on former college campus set for approval

Plans to build more than 150 new homes on the site of a former college campus in Leeds look set to get the go-ahead later this week (1 October 2020).Stonewater, Galliford Try Partnerships Yorkshire and Leeds City College are behind the plans for residential development on part of the former Horsforth Campus site.Outline planning permission was granted in March 2016 for Phase 1 of the development on the site, comprising up to 72 homes, access, landscaping and open space, with a reserved matters application subsequently submitted for 65 dwellings.An application for Phase 2 of the scheme was lodged in September 2019; however, following discussions with Leeds City Council, a revised proposal was submitted for a the entire site earlier this year.Full planning consent is sought for a development of 152 affordable homes on the site, down from the originally proposed 188 following the removal of an area of ecological value from the plans.The housing would comprise a comprises a mix of detached, semi-detached, terraced and apartment properties, with two, three, and four-bed units. A total of 258 car parking spaces would also be provided.The application will go before the council’s City Plans Panel on 1 October and is recommended for approval, subject to conditions, in an officer’s report prepared for the remote meeting.The application has been supported by planning consultancy WYG and Brewster Bye Architects.
