Approval given to job-creating retail scheme
Proposals for a new job-creating development designed to bring new major retail outlets to a site in Darlington have been approved.Hansteen Land sought planning permission to construct three commercial units on the former Vantage Point site on Faverdale Industrial Estate in Cockerton. The scheme involves the development of a new Lidl supermarket, a Home Bargains retail outlet and a Starbucks drive-thru coffee shop.It is estimated that the scheme would create 130 part and full-time jobs upon completion.Hansteen Land also proposes the provision of 263 car parking and 30 cycle spaces.A report for the council’s planning committee – which met on Wednesday 30 September – recommended the plans be refused. However, committee members were minded to grant permission, subject to conditions.
