Plans to transport part of Salford into a “globally recognised destination for people to live, learn, work, visit, play and be active” are set to take a step forward. In March 2020, Salford City Council and Salford University appointed the English Cities Fund as private sector partner to the Crescent Masterplan.Since then, they have been reviewing and testing the initial proposals developed by 5plus Architects and developing a delivery programme. The partners are eager to build on momentum and the wealth of work already undertaken to prepare and adopt a new Development Framework for the area by the end of 2020. This would replace the “now outdated” Crescent Development Framework of 2014.An initial scoping consultation on the draft vision and objectives for the Development Framework was undertaken between June and August 2020.A draft document has now been drawn up, with the city mayor advised to endorse it for the purposes of consultation and note that the final version will be brought back to a future meeting. If backed, the consultation would commence on 20 October and last six weeks.
