Energy-from-waste facility plans lodged

Plans have been lodged for a new East Yorkshire energy-from-waste facility that would support the creation of almost 90 jobs and represent an investment of about £130m in the region.NRG Hull Ltd, supported by Max Design and Mark Simmonds Planning Services, has submitted an application to East Riding of Yorkshire Council for a site south of Ferndale Park, Newfields Industrial Estate in Saltend.Planning permission is sought for the demolition of the existing buildings and construction of a new power plant.The proposed development would comprise comprises two incineration lines and ancillary equipment in a newly-constructed building. It would also feature a 65-metre-high chimney stack.The plant would be able to convert low grade refuse derived fuel (RDF) into energy and would generate about 20 Megawatts electric (MWe) for the the local distribution network.It has been estimated that 50 full time construction jobs would be created, together with 38 skilled roles throughout the 20-year lifetime of the plant. The development is said to represent an investment of about £130m into the region’s economy.The facility would also divert about 320,000 tonnes of waste per year from landfill.
