Celtic Football Club receives planning permission in principle for hotel build

Celtic Football Club has received planning permission in principle subject to conditions for the build of a hotel, museum and club store at their Parkhead stadium.The Scottish champions first lodged the plans in 2017, however Glasgow City Council ruled that part of the blueprint needed to be amended. In June of this year, Celtic lodged an application amending the ruling that no individual retail unit shall exceed 400 square metre.The club argued that the retail floorspace forms an ‘integral’ part of the mixed-use development and cannot be separated from the other elements of the proposal, and that the new club shop and ticketing facility are replacements for those already on site.Celtic will have to meet a number of conditions before work on the development can commence. The conditions include the submission and approval of the site layout; the submission of a masterplan which reaffirms an overall vision for the wider site – set with a clear urban design and infrastructure framework; the creation of a detailed site-wide drainage strategy; a ‘comprehensive’ site investigation for ground contamination; and the submission and approval of a phased strategy and programme for improving connections from the site to the surrounding pedestrian and cycle network.
