450-home plans recommended for approval

A proposed development of up to 450 new homes on a site in South Yorkshire looks set to get the go-ahead at a meeting tomorrow (5 November 2020).EV Waddington submitted an application to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in 2019 for a 49-acre site off Lathe Road and Worry Goose Lane in Whiston.Outline planning consent is sought for the construction of up to 450 homes, including the means of access.The proposed development could accommodate a mix of one- and two-bed apartments, three- and four-bed townhouses or semi detached dwellings, and three-, four- and five-bed detached houses.About 25 per cent of the homes would be affordable housing. New opens spaces and landscaping works are also planned.The application will be considered by the council’s Planning Board on 5 November and is recommended for approval subject to the signing of a Section 106 agreement, in an officer’s report prepared for the meeting.The council has received 320 letters of representation, with objections including the loss of green space and agricultural land, the potential for increased traffic, air and noise pollution concerns, and the impact on existing facilities in the area.
