Approval for 13-storey student accommodation plans

Planning permission has been granted for a mixed-use development of more than 220 student flats and commercial space in Sheffield city centre.Crosslane Group, supported by Urbana Town Planning and Cartwright Pickard, submitted an application to Sheffield City Council earlier this year for a development on Fitzwilliam Street.The proposal includes the demolition of the existing industrial building on the site and construction of a new part four-, part nine- and part 13-storey building.A total of 225 student bedrooms would be provided, with 201 studios and 12 two-bed apartments. Amenity areas and a rooftop terrace are also included in the plans.Two commercial units are also proposed for the ground floor fronting onto Fitzwilliam Street and Bowland Street.No car parking is proposed on site but secure cycle parking will be provided on the ground floor.The council has now granted planning permission for the development, subject to conditions, under delegated powers.
