Major Jewellery Quarter mixed-use scheme tipped for green light

Planning chiefs at Birmingham City Council have tipped a huge mixed-use scheme in the Jewellery Quarter for approval.Earlier this year, the developer behind one of Birmingham’s tallest buildings announced plans for more than 700 apartments at a Jewellery Quarter car park, paving the way for a major regeneration of a site commonly known as the ‘bomb site’.Moda Living has teamed up with Birmingham City Council to redevelop Ludgate Hill Car Park after acquiring Sterling Property Ventures’ interest in the project.The plans include 722 apartments to rent, a gym, green spaces, roof terraces, communal lounges and workspaces as well as new shops and commercial space.Moda Living is currently building The Mercian, a 42-storey tower comprising 481 units to rent.Ludgate Hill Car Park has been earmarked for redevelopment for a number of years but plans failed to get off the ground.Birmingham City Council’s planning committee will meet next week to vote on the scheme.
