Approval for redevelopment of listed Sheffield buildings

Planning consent has been granted for the redevelopment of listed buildings in Sheffield city centre to create a new mixed-use development.Southern Grove (Hollis Croft), supported by AXIS Architecture, submitted planning and listed building applications to Sheffield City Council earlier this year for 52-54 Garden Street in the St Vincent’s Quarter.The plans cover the restoration and conversion of the existing grade II-listed ranges and the demolition of the modern additions to make way for a new extension.The new development would comprise 19 studio apartments for use as either an aparthotel or individual units. Ground floor commercial space and ancillary accommodation is also included.The scheme represents the third phase of development of buildings in this area. Redevelopment has been completed of the adjoining site at 79-81 Hollis Croft, carparks adjoining 81 Hollis Croft and land adjoining 56 Garden Street for student accommodation, as well as the Phase 2 proposals for the retained buildings at Vincent House.A planning statement submitted with the plans said the new development would “provide employment opportunities on the site not currently available, temporarily during the construction of the building and also through the creation of jobs in managing the facility and in the amenities provided”.The council has now granted permission for both applications, subject to conditions, under delegated powers.
