A growing body of evidence suggests that whole systems approaches can help tackle complex problems like obesity at the local level.The WSA programme has been commissioned by Public Health England, Association of Directors of Public Health and the Local Government Association. The framework, guidance and resources are designed to support local authorities and their local systems partners, including the NHS, local businesses, communities and the voluntary sector. This approach is endorsed through Priority One of Surrey’s Health & Wellbeing Strategy (Helping people in Surrey to lead a healthy life). One of the focus areas of Priority One is excess weight and physical activity, namely:A whole system approach to physical activity including improving green spaces, transport initiatives and healthy planningA whole system approach to tackling childhood obesityA healthy food environment approach with focus on the most deprived areas and people in residential careOrganisations with knowledge of the local Surrey voluntary market are invited to bid for grant funding of up to £20,000 in order to put in place and develop a whole systems framework to tackle obesity in the County. In order to qualify for grant funding, applicants will need to meet the following criteria:Clearly demonstrate in the bid how the whole system will be engaged through use of the WSA to obesity frameworkProvide evidence of how the proposed approach will tackle, directly or indirectly, the causes of obesityClarify how proposed approach will have a role in reducing health inequalitiesExplain how the whole systems approach will target those populations disproportionately affected by Covid, i.e. BAME populations; obese populations; older people (65+); people with pre-existing conditions such as cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dementiaExplain how your bid supports social value objectivesTo submit a compliant bid, you must complete and return the documents.5.
