Plans in Pipeline for Major Riverside Resi Scheme

Plans for a major residential scheme rising to 18 storeys high on the banks of the River Tyne have taken a step forward after new documents were filed with Newcastle City Council. The project forms part of the wider redevelopment of sites around the mouth of the Ouseburn.Developer PfP Igloo has earmarked land at the former Malmo and Spillers Quays on the north bank of the River Tyne.A environmental impact assessment (EIA) scoping report relating to the scheme has been lodged by Cundall on behalf of the company.If work goes ahead, a residential block of 18 storeys would be built in the north-west corner of Malmo Quay, along with other blocks of between three and six storeys.A series of residential buildings of up to ten-storeys would also be erected on Spillers Quay.The project would include improvements to public realm and open spaces along the river and quayside, as well as smaller-scale commercial units.Igloo is also behind Newcastle’s Stephenson Works project.
