Green Light Recommended for Housing and Care Home Plans

Plans for a development of more than 100 homes and an extra care facility on a site in Leeds look set to get the go-ahead later this week (1 April 2021).An application was lodged a the end of 2020 for development on land at Throstle Recreation ground and the Middleton Skills Centre.Leeds City Council is the applicant and is working with Wates Construction to bring forward the scheme. Watson Batty Architects has also worked on the proposals.Full planning permission is sought for 116 homes and a 60 Bedroom extra care facility.The majority of the scheme will be developed on the Throstle Recreation Ground, site including the extra care facility and 93 homes. The remaining 23 properties would be built on the former Middleton Skills Centre site to the west of the main site.The housing will comprise a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom properties, as well as one-bedroom bungalows.A new courtyard garden and landscaped area would be created to the rear of the care facility.New green space is planned on the former Throstle Recreation Ground site, including a new public park and sports pitch.The application will go before the council’s South and West Plans panel on 1 April and is recommended for approval, subject to conditions, in an officer’s report prepared for the meeting.The recommendation has been made despite an objection from Sport England over the loss of the playing field.
