Green light for Derby bus depot

The green light has been secured for the development of a new bus depot in Derby which is expected to employ hundreds of people.Transport operator Trentbarton sought the go-ahead from Derby City Council to build the depot on former industrial land.Located on Stores Road, the site was formerly occupied by Aiton and Co, latterly Shaw UK, which was involved in cast iron pipe making on the site since 1908. Manufacturing ceased in 2013. The two-storey security gatehouse has remained and will be reused.The site will be used for the storage, when not in operation, and maintenance of buses used for local public transport.Two buildings are proposed for the site, a workshop for servicing the vehicles and a crew room which is a welfare facility for drivers/service staff.Trentbarton is also set to change the use of a car dealership for the storage of vehicles.The depot will employ a total of 261 people, with 222 being full-time and 39 part-time.The scheme has now been approved, subject to conditions.
