Plans for the construction of up to 500 homes on agricultural land allocated for residential development in Coventry have been approved.Lioncourt Strategic Land Ltd and Bluemark Developments sought outline approval from Coventry City Council to build the residential properties on land north of Thompsons Farm, Thompsons Road, Keresley. The site forms agricultural land allocated for residential development within the Keresley Sustainable Urban Extension (SUE).The application proposes a mix of housing types, tenure and size to be clarified at the detailed design stage. The parameter plan submitted limits the housing to two storeys in height on the boundaries of the site, with the exception of the north east corner where dwellings would be between two and three storeys.Of the approximately 51-acre site, 26 per cent will be undeveloped and comprising formal and informal open space, including sustainable drainage, landscaped buffer, planting and a children’s play area.During the ten-year construction phase, it is anticipated the scheme will support approximately 47 direct on-site construction jobs per annum. It is also considered that the proposed development could support an additional 82 jobs per annum in the wider economy. The application was reviewed by the council’s planning committee on 27 May.The scheme has been approved, subject to conditions.
