Go-ahead for housing plans on former industrial site

Major housing plans for a former industrial site in Newark-on-Trent have secured planning approval.Nottingham Community Housing Association sought the go-ahead from Newark & Sherwood District Council to build 87 affordable properties at 293 Bowbridge Road in Newark-on-Trent.The application site is an L-shaped plot of land measuring approximately 6.1 acres. It is currently vacant having been previously in industrial use.The scheme comprises a mixture of one, two and three-bed, two-storey houses, along with 18, one-bed flats and a number of one and two-bed bungalows. An eight-bed house is also included to be used as supported living.The development will be rented and managed by Nottingham Community Housing Association.It was deferred from a previous meeting on 27 April to allow officers to discuss the implications of developing the site with environmental health officers.The scheme has now been approved following a meeting on 1 June.
