Gort Scott to add three floors and pink façade to 90s London office

Gort Scott has submitted plans to redevelop a 30-year-old office near London’s Liverpool Street, adding a three-storey vertical extension and a new façadeThe practice plans to increase the net internal area of the 1991 New Liverpool House, in Eldon Street, by 1,164m2 – equivalent to 42 per cent. The scheme to remodel the original tp bennett-designed block will add sixth, seventh and eighth floors.The planning application has been submitted on behalf of the City of London.Subject to permission, Gort Scott will also remodel the fifth floor, as well as convert an existing private medical facility and restaurant on the ground floor into an office space and a gym respectively.Under the plans, the new and old portions of the existing commercial building will be united through a new glazed pink ceramic façade, with external terraces also added in, while the building will be topped out with a green roof.Gort Scott said the plans would enhance the individuality of the existing façade in the block, while imitating the skyline, shoulder and base of the existing block, which also fronts Finsbury Circus and is opposite Hopkins’ 100 Liverpool Street.The addition of a new façade will allow improvement of the building’s environmental performance and internal spaces, as well as fitting in with surrounding brick and stone buildings – and AHMM’s plans for 1-2 Broadgate over the road.The City of London and Gort Scott declined to comment.
