Green light for Bedminster Green regeneration

Regeneration plans for a brownfield site in Bedminster have been approved by Bristol City Council. The project is being brought forward by developer Deeley Freed.The land – located between Dalby Avenue and Whitehouse Lane – forms a key site within the Bedminster Green framework area and is currently occupied by a car park, car repair business and car sales business.The sustainable design features two new buildings, arranged within exemplar public realm, running alongside the restored River Malago. The mixed-use development will provide 819 student bed spaces, including 25 fully accessible rooms and study/social space for the University of Bristol. A further 6,000 sq ft of flexible employment and/or commercial space will be created along Whitehouse Lane.The development will also bring forward significant public realm improvements to the River Malago and Clarke Street and will integrate with the infrastructure and highway improvements being brought forward by the Council as part of the wider Bedminster Green regeneration project.A new pedestrian and cycle route through the site will link Clarke Street to Whitehouse Lane and on to Temple Meads and the University of Bristol Enterprise Campus.Sustainability elements include the use of rain gardens, orientation of the buildings to ensure good natural light and ventilation, high levels of insulation and the ability to generate electricity on site with the use of photovoltaic panels. The development will also connect to the council’s proposed District Heat Network.
