HZI to build £250m Skelton Grange EfW incinerator

Hitachi Zosen Inova has bagged the contract to build a £250m energy-from-waste plant on the site of the old Skelton Grange power station to the south of Leeds.The firm will now start work this month for joint venture client enfinium Skelton Grange, formerly Wheelabrator UK and Multifuel Energy.Full commissioning of the plant, which is HZI’s 14th UK project, is planned for 2025HZI and enfinium have a long track record of working together, having most recently successfully delivered Ferrybridge 1 and Ferrybridge 2 – two of the most efficient EfW facilities in the country.From 2025, around 410,000 tonnes of municipal and commercial waste from Yorkshire will be processed annually.This will generate up to 49MW of electricity, enough to meet the electricity needs of more than 100,000 homes.Fabio Dinale, VP of business development at HZI, said that the new plant will have two incineration lines, which will be equipped with HZI’s own EfW technology.
