Approval has been granted for the appropriation and disposal of land within the major £300m Blackpool Central development.Blackpool Council’s executive met on 12 July to approve the appropriation of a parcel of land to the back of the former King Edward Apartments within the Blackpool Central Site. This is to enable the building of a multi-storey car park which is the ‘Enabling Phase’ of the Blackpool Central development. The appropriation for planning purposes of the land is necessary as the programme of works for the ‘Enabling Phase’ means that the developer requires a safe working space. This is prior to the anticipated date of confirmation of the Compulsory Purchase Order.Blackpool Central will see significant regeneration of the inner area of the town with a leisure-led development at the heart of the visitor economy. The development aims to bring world class leisure attractions to the site, with the potential to generate significant economic growth and investment within the town. The scheme would also boost the local economy with a forecasted 1,000 additional jobs, about £75m of additional visitor spend and an additional 600,000 visitors per annum.
