Next phase of Lambton Park scheme granted approval

Detailed plans for the next phase of a residential scheme at the historic Lambton Park in the County Durham village of Bournmoor, which comprise commercial and retail space, have been given the green light.The former agricultural land is north of the existing residential development – Eastern Village – at Lambton Estate, which is being led by Miller Homes.Known as Cell C1, proposals for the parcel comprise the retail and commercial element of Lambton Park and forms the next phase of development of Eastern Village.The application sought permission for the construction of a three-storey commercial building, a separate pavilion and associated car parking.At ground level, the main building would include units for shops, cafes and other community uses, with office floorspace on the first and second floors. There is also the potential to use the space for meeting rooms or wellness/healthcare uses.The pavilion would be to the west of the commercial building and would house a café or restaurant. According to a document published by County Durham planners, the “proposed buildings would be of brick construction with a Victorian style emphasis”.Approval was granted subject to a number of conditions.Lambton Park can trace its roots back to the 11th century. In 2015, approval was granted to redevelop the asset alongside the construction of new homes, offices, retail and community space. Conservation works across the park, which includes the castle, stables and Lamb Bridge, will be funded by the development.
