Short description of the contract or purchase(s):: The new contract will be based upon a 7 year term with the ability to extend by 1 year.
Network Rail uses road haulage to move materials and rolling stock around the network and currently does this through one principal supplier who utilises a number of haulage subcontractors.
The service includes the provision of a Road Haulage Planning Centre based at the Quadrant, Milton Keynes which processes orders from Network Rail and sources and manages sub contract hauliers to collect and deliver materials by road.
Materials being delivered include:
– sleepers;
– short rail;
– rail ancillaries;
– aggregates (loose and bagged);
– switches and crossings;
– troughing;
– wheel sets for rail wagons;
– new, used and scrap materials.
