The site of a former sports club in Crewe could soon be transformed into a housing development after plans were recommended for approval. The Guinness Partnership Limited is seeking permission to build 73 homes on land at the former L M R Sports Club on Goddard Street.Proposals would comprise of 42 independent living apartments and 31 houses, all affordable homes, with access and landscaping. The application site comprises a vacant plot which previously included the sports club building and outbuildings including a small grandstand. In 2017 a scheme to erect 74 one, two and three-bedroom properties was refused by planning officials. Refusal was due to the proposed development’s detailed design and density, which it was claimed would have resulted in the “overdevelopment of the site”.However a recommendation has been given for the latest bid to be approved subject to a section 106 agreement.
