Plans for the development of a pair of student accommodation buildings expected to provide hundreds of beds in Nottingham have been backed by the council.Watkin Jones sought the go-ahead from Nottingham City Council to construct two buildings, one 12-storey and one seven-storey, at 135-137 Lower Parliament Street. The site fronts onto Huntingdon Street and Brook Street and was formerly occupied by the Housing Aid offices which were demolished last year. It is owned by the council and in the process of being sold to the applicant.Plans comprise 354 bed spaces arranged in a mix of 83 studios and 42 clusters.Additionally, a retail store would front Lower Parliament Street, with a basement car park providing 48 spaces. The scheme has now been approved, subject to conditions.
