Detailed plans for the next phase of the transformation of the former Llanwern Steelworks site in Newport have been recommended for approval.Glan Llyn is being developed by using a phased approach to bring forward up to 4,000 new homes. The 600-acre site will also provide a new local centre offering leisure and retail space, together with the site providing new education facilities and extensive open parkland.Phase 2D lies at the northern end of the site and the reserved matters application seeks approval for 180 houses, associated infrastructure and open space, including four local areas of play.Ordinarily, the application would be determined under delegated powers, but is being considered by Newport City Council’s planning committee to allow an assessment of the impact to flooding drainage and highways infrastructure, in particular the impact to the levels and villages in the wider area. The submitted details are said to be acceptable, subject to the application of conditions.
