Plans for a new job-creating petrol station facility at a prominent site in Carmarthenshire are set to move forward after being recommended for approval.Acting on behalf of Motor Fuel and Draycott Investments, JMS Planning and Development is seeking permission for the erection of a new petrol filling station and associated facilities at a site off the St Clears Roundabout. The primary purpose of the proposal is to provide a facility for travellers on the strategic A40 and A477 routesThe development envisages a sales building and associated outdoor seating area, forecourt fuelling area for both domestic vehicles and HGVs, jet wash and car care facilities, electric vehicle charging points alongside car parking and cycle facilities. It will operate 24 hours a day and has been designed to complement a new McDonald’s restaurant and coffee/sandwich shop that are currently under construction as well as the existing hotel and coffee shop adjacent to the roundaboutTen full-time and ten-part-time jobs will be created by the scheme.Despite concerns about the traffic impact, loss of mature trees and possible contanimation, the application has recommended for approval ahead of a Carmarthenshire County Council meeting.According to a report to be scrutinised by councillors, the proposal is deemed acceptable and in compliance with the policy objectives of the local authority and national planning policy.Where potential impacts have been identified, these will be “mitigated by appropriate mitigation measures which will be secured by planning conditions”.
