Major waste services depot tipped for approval
Plans for the development of a major waste services depot in Birmingham have been recommended for approval ahead of a planning committee meeting later this week.Birmingham City Council’s waste and refuse service is seeking the go-ahead for a purpose-built facility to relocate the existing Montague Street and Redfern Road facilities into one location.Montague Street houses the waste management main garage, which carries out repairs, maintenance and MOT servicing of the council’s fleet of vehicles, while the Redfern depot provides ablutions, welfare and office facilities. The newly proposed “super facility” would be set over two storeys and include open plan offices, comms room, training room, kitchen and mess room, plant room, a muster/meeting room, stores and MOT reception.A workshop would be split into inspection bays for different sized vehicles and areas for taxi inspections and MOT space.Additionally, 150 staff/visitor spaces are included in the plans. The application will be reviewed by the council’s planning committee on 29 October.
