A housing development on a former industrial site in York city centre has been given the go-ahead.The development of eight homes on the site of the former WLD Textiles on Lansdowne Terrace will comprise a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses, with living spaces at first floor level and access to private gardens created on a deck above a parking area.Approval of the scheme by City of York planning department follows an appeal by planning and development consultancy Lichfields against an earlier decision to block the project. The existing commercial buildings and factory units will now be demolished to make way for redevelopmentThe project is expected to create several jobs in the construction and associated supply chain. Justine Matchett, planning director at the Newcastle office of Lichfields, who oversaw the planning application, said the project will provide a boost to local housing stock, reflecting how innovative design is influential in bringing forward the development of restricted sites.
